One of the Eastern Mass riders, Jordan Mlsna, was fortunate enough to have FlexPro wheel lights donated to the entire pack of Climate Summer riders for our journey. Each rider got a set of lights for their front and back wheels with enough sets left over to outfit the team trailers. Not only do the lights come in 14 colors and make bikes totally visible from the side, but anyone who has them looks 100% cooler against the night sky.
Our first night riding with the lights was after a letter writing party in Tyler Park. As we unlocked our bikes, we simultaneously switched on the lights and were amazed at how bright they actually were. As we rode through Lowell, people cheered from their car windows and kids walking on the sidewalks ooed and awed. Suddenly riding a bike at night allows all of us to feel like superheroes.
In fact, on our team’s first day of tumultuous hills heading to Peterborough with the sun setting and the dark storm over head, our wheel lights brought out Brendan’s alter ego: Batman. His black raincoat was flapping in the breeze of the much-appreciated downhill as the blue and green lights reflected off of the slick, rain covered road. Nothing says motivation like trying to catch up to Batman.
